Cimbria Capital is a private equity investment firm based in Texas, founded by Brian V. Iversen. The firm conducts growth capital and early stage buyout investments focused on the agribusiness and water sectors in North America and Europe.
Cimbria’s mission is to generate superior returns for our investors and to help solve important global challenges related to the sectors we invest in. Brian V.Iversen Managing Partner
Mr. Iversen is the Founder and Managing Partner of Cimbria Capital. He is based in Houston, Texas.
Prior to founding Cimbria Capital, Mr. Iversen became an acknowledged specialist in private equity and portfolio company management at Riverstone Holdings, one of the world’s largest and most successful private equity firms in the energy industry. Mr. Iversen held a position as a Vice President at Riverstone where he was an investment professional focused on the renewable energy and the sustainable agriculture industries as well as certain oil and natural gas services sectors. During his eight-year tenure at Riverstone, Mr. Iversen participated on and led specialized investment teams that invested and managed equity capital of nearly $2 billion into companies located in the Americas and Europe.
While at Riverstone, Mr. Iversen was a member on the team that launched and managed the world’s largest independent private equity fund dedicated exclusively to private renewable energy investments. As part of this work, he worked closely with several senior business and thought leaders in the finance and renewable energy industries. Prior to joining Riverstone, Mr. Iversen was a Sr. Financial Analyst with Seabulk International, a Riverstone portfolio company primarily engaged in the offshore oil and gas and marine industries.
Most recently, Mr. Iversen’s was the President and CEO at AG Global where he led an experienced production and sales team in the organic and natural agriculture industry. Mr. Iversen was appointed CEO of AG Global to re-shape the company’s overall structure, business plan, and team. AG Global is today a profitable company with promise in the North American agriculture and in the home and garden retail industry.
Mr. Iversen serves on the Board of Directors of AG Global Canada, L.P. and Florida Design Drilling, LLC (water industry). He previously served on the Boards of Directors of Amaizeingly Green Value Products ULC, Amaizeingly Green Products L.P, Green Earth Fuels LLC, Patagonia Bioenergia SA, ReEnergy Holdings LLC, Sustainable Oils LLC, Frontier Drilling Holdings, and Seajacks International.
Mr. Iversen received his B.S.B.A., magna cum laude, in finance from University of Central Florida. He received in 2015 a Notable Knight Award from his Alma Mater. He also served as a First Lieutenant in the Royal Danish Army for three years prior to coming to the United States in 2000.
Mr. Hansen is the Managing Director of Cimbria Capital. He is based in Zürich, Switzerland.
Mr. Hansen joined Cimbria Capital in 2016 with the purpose of further strengthening the firm’s global strategy and industry relationships with a particular focus on technology, conscious business, and branding. He serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and as a potential board member for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.
A global strategist, Mr. Hansen is also Chief Transformation Officer at The Futures Agency, a recognized transformation advisor to some of the world’s leading companies and brands. The focus of Mr. Hansen is how to generate fast, sustainable, and exponential change towards a digital world through new leadership mindsets, technologies, frameworks, and business models.
Mr. Hansen is the founder of several companies in the executive advisory, technology, and investment sectors including Future Associates, iMind, and Blue Ocean Ventures. He remains a partner at Future Associates and Blue Ocean Ventures and sold iMind to Progressive A/S, a Danish tech company, in 2012. He is a guest lecturer at the University of Zürich on business strategy, organizational design, and leadership.
Mr. Hansen holds a M.Sc. from the Technical University of Denmark, and a degree in Marketing & Communication from the Copenhagen Business School.
Mr. Sabich is a Director and a founding member of Cimbria Capital. He is based in Houston, Texas and Springfield, Illinois.
Prior to joining Cimbria Capital, Mr. Sabich was the Director of Sustainability and Statesmanship at Rasmussen Public Affairs. In this position he developed and implemented global market expansion and sustainability strategies for clients in the agriculture, water, and engineered product sectors. Mr. Sabich worked closely with senior executives and consultant teams across the United States and Europe on corporate strategy, global issues management, and risk assessment. He is an active thought-leader on questions of water investment, water stewardship, and hydro-diplomacy.
During his career, Mr. Sabich has worked on sustainability issues in developed and emerging markets throughout North America, Europe, North Africa, South America, and Oceania. He is a founding member of Acaté Amazon Conservation, an internationally recognized non-profit known for its innovative conservation programs with the Matsés tribe in the Peruvian Amazon.
Mr. Sabich holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Connecticut in French with a specialization in post-colonial relations. He also holds an M.A. in Francophone studies from Middlebury College, and a B.A. in European History and French from Bates College.
AviDas Venture Partner
Mr. Das is a Venture Partner of Cimbria Capital. He is based in New York City, New York.
Mr. Das is the CEO of ACD Analytics, a management consultancy providing businesses with strategic guidance, M&A advisory work, and business process optimization. He has worked with organizations whose revenues have exceeded $10 billion in the energy, technology, and consumer products sectors.
Prior to ACD Analytics, Mr. Das was an associate with Riverstone Holdings, one of the largest energy focused private equity firms. At Riverstone he worked on alternative energy, midstream, energy services, and transport sectors.
Mr. Das served as the board liaison for six portfolio companies in the power, energy services, and value added products spaces and worked closely with the management teams of those investments on their strategic and operational programs.
Before Riverstone, Mr. Das was an analyst in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in the Industrials group. While at Goldman he worked on M&A and financing transactions in the water, cleantech, transportation, engineered products, and transportation sectors. Mr. Das has a B.A. in Economics and History from Amherst College.
Ernst TheodorSack Venture Partner
Mr. Ernst Theodor Sack is a Venture Partner of Cimbria Capital.
Mr. Sack joined Cimbria Capital in 2016 as an advisor and venture partner with the purpose of further strengthening the firm’s strategic thinking and networks, investment acumen, and portfolio management. Mr. Sack is a patient and thoughtful investor with extensive experience in private equity and business growth execution. Mr. Sack serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and as a potential investment partner for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.
Currently, Mr. Sack is a Principal with Riverstone Holdings covering the upstream, services and equipment manufacturing sectors for conventional and renewable energy. His transaction experience includes several board roles and investments in Eagle Energy, Titan Specialties, Proserv Group, Origo Exploration, Sierra Oil & Gas and Enviva Biomass. Mr. Sack is also the Founding Partner of Blue Bear Capital, a private equity firm with a focus on fast-growing private companies that apply data-driven technologies to the traditional and renewable energy supply chain.
Prior to joining Riverstone and founding Blue Bear Capital, Mr. Sack was an Analyst in the Mergers & Acquisitions team at Citigroup where he conducted valuation and transaction execution work in energy, industrials and transportation.
Mr. Sack graduated with honors from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University where he received a degree in Science, Technology & International Affairs and a certificate in Eurasian, Russian & East European Studies. He received his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and London Business School through a joint degree program.
Martin D.Beirne, III Operating Partner
Mr. Beirne is an Operating Partner of Cimbria Capital. He is based in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Beirne joined Cimbria Capital in 2016 with the purpose of further strengthening the firm’s industry relationships in the natural resource sectors. He serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and as a potential board member for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.
Mr. Beirne brings to Cimbria Capital, and its target client companies, more than fifteen years of senior executive leadership experience in the areas of business development and strategic transformation coupled with expertise in working successfully with private equity owners. Mr. Beirne is currently CEO of VRC Technologies, a Texas-based chemical formulations, manufacturing, and distribution company with deep formulary expertise in the agrochemicals and oilfield chemicals sectors. He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Green Earth Fuels, LLC, an integrated alternative energy company operating large-scale processing assets situated within the Kinder Morgan Galena Park Terminal on the Houston Ship Channel. A founder of Green Earth, Mr. Beirne played a pivotal role in the origination and execution of the business plan and in securing private-equity investment from Riverstone Holdings, The Carlyle Group, and Goldman Sachs.
In addition to his executive and commercial responsibilities within Green Earth, Mr. Beirne developed extensive experience in the operational compliance and legislative aspects of environmental regulations and sustainability regimes. Mr. Beirne represented both company and industry interests in federal, state and international forums with direct participation with entities such as EPA-OAR, USDA, and TCEQ and with programs including, RFS2, LCFS, RSPO, and REACH.
Mr. Beirne earned an M.B.A. in international management from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) and a B.S. in management from Spring Hill College.
HenrikDanielsen Operating Partner
Mr. Danielsen is an Operating Partner of Cimbria Capital. He is based in Nykøbing Sjælland, Denmark.
Mr. Danielsen joined Cimbria Capital in 2016 with the purpose of further strengthening the firm’s expertise in the acquisition and expansion of global agricultural companies. Mr. Danielsen serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and represents the firm in Northern Europe. He also serves as a potential board member for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.
A respected leader in the North European agriculture sector, Mr. Danielsen is the CEO of CommonSense Consult, a management consulting group focused on the development, purchase, and management of agricultural companies and large farms. In his previous position, he served as the CEO of Patriotisk Selskab, a consulting firm of 80 agribusiness experts specialized in growing agricultural companies and farms in Denmark and Northern Europe.
Mr. Danielsen serves on the Board of Directors of a number of agriculture companies, including Slæbækgård & Kokkenborg ApS, Hjorthede Planteskole ApS, and Sødamgård Gods. He is also the founder of the business network “Mentornetværk for hjemvendte Soldater,” working closely with veterans organizations in Denmark, the United Kingdom and Norway to provide jobs and career counseling for soldiers transitioning to civilian life.
Mr. Danielsen holds a Cand. Jur. (M. Law) from the University of Copenhagen. Prior to his career in agriculture, he served for 14 years in the Royal Danish Army, including several deployments to the Middle East.
Palle GravesenJensen Operating Partner
Mr. Palle Gravesen Jensen is an Operating Partner of Cimbria Capital. He is based in Santa Monica, California.
Mr. Jensen joined Cimbria Capital in 2015 with the purpose of further strengthening the firm’s operational, strategic, and tactical execution over the course of the investment cycle. He serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and as a potential board member for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.
Currently, Mr. Jensen is Chairman and Owner of Electronic House UAB, CEO and Owner of Libra Cable Technologies, and CEO and Owner of Metalco Baltic UAB. He serves as President of the Danish American Chamber of Commerce in southern California and Arizona. Mr. Jensen is also a Co-founder of the Vilnius International School in Lithuania.
Mr. Jensen was appointed as an Honorary Graduate Ambassador of the Baltic Management Institute’s Executive MBA. He holds a certification in Corporate Governance from the Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance and a certification in Supply Chain Management from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Mr. Jensen previously served as both Chairman and Board Member for the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania, and as Board Member representing INWIDO and UAB Print-IT. Mr. Jensen holds an Executive MBA from the Baltic Management Institute, a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Aarhus University, and an undergraduate degree in Business and Marketing from Randers Handelsskole, HHX.
BarryMattson Operating Partner
Mr. Mattson is an Operating Partner of Cimbria Capital. He is based in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Mattson joined Cimbria Capital in 2016 with the purpose of strengthening the firm’s expertise in operational, strategic and tactical execution over the course of the investment cycle. He directs specialized project activities for specific portfolio companies for the Cimbria ‘Acceleration Program’. He serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and as a potential board member and executive officer for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.
Mr. Mattson brings to Cimbria Capital and its portfolio companies over fifteen years of executive and military officer experience in the areas of leadership, cross-cultural negotiations, operations and due-diligence. He is currently Executive Director of The Mission Continues, a nationwide non-profit that works to empower veterans by deploying them on new missions in their communities while building skills that help them successfully reintegrate to life after the military. Mr. Mattson leads a multi-state region in all functions of the organization including development, communications, thought-leadership, operations, human resources and strategic planning.
A Major in the U.S. Army and Captain in the U.S. Air Force with two separate combat deployments in Iraq, Mr. Mattson possesses extensive leadership practice in high-pressure and complex environments. He was selected as commander of an Army cavalry unit and was handpicked to oversee the multibillion-dollar Logistics Civil Augmentation Program for Iraq during his first tour. After transitioning from military reserve status in Air Force to join an Airborne unit in the Army, Mr. Mattson again deployed to Iraq and led capacity-building efforts and humanitarian relief with Special Forces teams, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and USAID. His work resulted in building a school, a hospital wing and demonstration farms in Baghdad province.
Outside of his military career, Mr. Mattson founded the Ethiopian arm of Nuru International where he developed a team of local leaders that co-created grassroots economic solutions focused on impact, sustainability and scalability for rural farmers. Mr. Mattson began his career in the private sector as a commodities associate through the emerging talent program in agriculture value chain, agribusiness economics, and global sales and trading at Bunge Global Agribusiness.
Mr. Mattson holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a double major in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management, and an M.A. in International Security Studies from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He earned his B.S. in Biology and a commission as a military officer at the United States Air Force Academy. Mr. Mattson possesses U.S. Top Secret clearance.
J. JulianSmith Operating Partner
J. Julian Smith, Ph.D. is an operating partner of Cimbria Capital. He maintains offices in Carrizozo, New Mexico and Springfield, Illinois.
Dr. Smith joined Cimbria Capital in 2016 with the purpose of further strengthening the firm’s agribusiness strategy and industry relationships with a particular focus on the future of agricultural technology innovation. He serves as a direct advisor to Cimbria Capital’s investment team and as a potential board member for certain Cimbria portfolio companies.
Dr. Smith is currently President and Co-Founder of CZO Agronomics, a global consulting group devoted to technical advisory and end-to-end project management services in agribusiness and horticulture. Before founding CZO Agronomics, Dr. Smith was the Director of Discovery & Innovation for Brandt Consolidated, Inc. in Springfield, Illinois leading the company’s plant health research and new product development team. Prior to joining Brandt, Dr. Smith was the Vice-President of Plant Nutrition at Loveland Industries (UAP), and the Vice-President of Environment and Agronomy at the J.R. Simplot Company.
Dr. Smith originally moved to America in 1987 to serve as the Director of the Fluid Fertilizer Foundation and Vice-President of the National Fertilizer Solutions Association (NFSA). He is a past Board Chair and still serves on the Board of Directors of the Fluid Fertilizer Foundation. He received the prestigious Fluid Fellow Award in 2012.
Dr. Smith is a widely published agricultural professional in the fields of agronomy, environmental issues and precision agriculture. His career has been primarily concerned with plant nutrition and specialty products, as well as their positioning within the agricultural market-places of North America and Europe. The latter half of Dr. Smith’s career has focused on micro-nutrient application for all crops, to compliment his earlier research and market development on foliar nutrition and integrated crop management.
Dr. Smith holds a Ph. D. in small grains pathology and physiology from the University of Stirling, and a B.Sc. in Agricultural Botany from the University of Leeds. A native of Sheffield, England, Dr. Smith is now a naturalized U.S. citizen.

One cannot incentivize an individual to think like an owner through compensation alone. We therefore seek managers who, with or without financial incentives, will do the right thing for our companies and for our investors’ capital. We will compensate these individuals the way we ask to be compensated ourselves; fairly and as owners.
We are no-rush capital allocators...
We observe, evaluate, and we invest; but only when the time is right and never in a rush. We avoid chasing unwilling sellers and competitive auctions since both often inflate entry valuations. We understand our core competencies, but we only apply them if the target is open for change and in need of capital and a new partner.

We focus on track record, not simply the forecast...
We do not have a crystal ball and we do not claim an ability to predict the future. We also know that financial forecasts are usually wrong. We therefore evaluate our companies, our management teams, and individual team members by their track record, not only by their promises of the future.
We aim to be cycle agnostic...
While being keenly aware of economic cycles, we will not treat them as tools to accomplish investment success. Instead, we focus on creating fundamental and sustainable value that will translate into advantageous financial positions throughout the economic cycle.
We invest in commercial and revenue-generating businesses in
need of growth capital…
We do not invest in start-ups or ‘greenfield’ propositions. We seek companies in their commercial adolescence in need of growth capital.
Limited use of leverage upfront...
Overuse of leverage in early stage growth companies often inhibits creativity and flexibility. It is also a significant risk to the equity owner if financial projections are missed. We therefore limit our use of leverage until a value platform has been created.
We have an exit strategy before investment entry…
We wish to know where we are headed before we begin our journey. If we do not have a clear understanding of our end-goal (a financial exit), we will invest elsewhere.
Creative but simple ownership structures…
Overly complicated systems and arrangements are usually costly and will often result in misunderstandings and frustration. We prefer thoughtful, but simple and transparent structures in ownership and compensation.
